ST Elevation
Myocardial Infarction
(STEMI) Procedures now
nationwide
The prioritisation of
patients with evidence of STEMI on their 12 lead
ECG to receive immediate PCI has become
nationwide from Jan 15th 2013.
The system has been very successful in its first
months of operation and has ensured that many
suitable patients have received definitive care
within a few hours. Protocol for GPs is now available for
download.

publication, launched in December, highlighted
the work undertaken by MERIT. You

Cardiac Arrest in
General Practice Ongoing
audit
Thank you to all the GPs in
the MERIT network for your continued involvement
in returning case reports for our register of
Cardiac Arrest with Resuscitation Attempts
(CARAs). The response rate for the
last survey (Oct-Dec) was 82%.
Reminders have been sent. We would be
grateful if you could return them as soon as
possible. You can report a CARA at
any time by calling the CEMS office at 716
6640.
Roll-out of
Atrial Fibrillation
Screening MERIT
Project
Since 2010, MERIT has
conducted a HRB funded project to examine the
potential to screen older patients for atrial
fibrillation using FR2+ and monitoring leads.
Our thanks go to the 30 randomly selected
practices that have now completed a very
successful screening process – initial
publications will report results soon. On the
basis of these results we have received HRB
funding to test the feasibility of a wider
roll-out, to 50 MERIT practices.

Advanced
Paramedic Intern
Supervisors Meeting -
Roscrea
Over 40 AP intern
supervisors (doctors from general practice,
emergency medicine, surgery and anaesthesia, and
senior Advanced Paramedics) met in Roscrea in
January. Supervisors are at the heart of the
eight week internship programme which makes up
Block 3 of the Advanced Paramedic Training
Programme - their voluntary contribution of time
and expertise is essential to the success of the
programme. A range of sessions
exchanged experience and updated us all on
recent clinical changes to CPGs and equipment.
The focus was on the role of Supervisor and how
best we can support our students and
interns.
